If you’re looking for a memorable, hands-on experience in Monterey, you’re in the right place. My private pottery workshops offer a relaxed, creative environment where your group can slow down, connect, and enjoy creating together.

All workshops focus on hand-building techniques (without the use of a pottery wheel), and you’ll learn the same skills I’ve honed over more than a decade of working with clay. Whether your group is brand-new to ceramics or already familiar with the medium, the experience is designed to be supportive, engaging, and genuinely fun.

During your session, your group will join me in the studio to create a specific project together—guided step by step and tailored to beginners and experienced makers alike.

Pricing

Private group workshops at Casey Starks Studio are available for groups of 2–10 adult guests.

Standard Group Pricing (4–10 guests)
• $145 per person

Small Group Minimum (2–3 guests)
Private workshops require a $580 minimum booking, which allows smaller groups to enjoy a highly personalized experience in the studio with more one-on-one attention.

Large Group, Off-Site Workshop (10+ guests)
Larger groups hosted at your location, pricing will vary based on number of participants and travel requirements. Please fill out the interest form at the bottom of the page and I will get back to you.

This structure ensures every workshop is spacious, unrushed, and thoughtfully guided.

What to Expect

Your group will be welcomed into the studio in the heart Monterey, California for a relaxed, creative, hands-on pottery experience. Workshops typically last 2.5 hours and include:

  • A private session designed just for your group

  • Step-by-step instruction tailored to total beginners and returning ceramic artists alike

  • All clay, tools, and materials provided

  • Time to create a complete project you’ll be proud of

  • Post-workshop finishing: I handle the, drying, bisque firing, glazing, and final glaze firing

  • Pick-up of finished pieces approximately 4–6 weeks later (shipping can be arranged for an additional fee, if required)

My goal is to create a warm, organized, inspiring environment where you can slow down, enjoy each other’s company, and make something meaningful with your hands.

Project Options

Your group may choose one of the following workshop topics:

• Make a Mug (most popular)
Learn foundational slab-building skills as you create your very own mug. Explore texture and form and create a piece you can use every day. This project is fun, beginner-friendly, and always a hit.

• Make Ceramic Jewelry
Design your own earring charms and necklace pendants using specific jewelry-focused techniques. Perfect for groups who want to focus on thoughtful details to make wearable art.

• Intro to Slab-Building
Explore the core techniques of slab-based construction while creating a functional or decorative piece. Great for curious beginners who want a broad introduction to working with clay.

Scheduling

Private workshops are scheduled by request so your group can choose a date and time that works best for you. I will do my best to accommodate your request.

To schedule your workshop:

  1. Fill out the workshop request form
    Share your preferred dates, group size, and project choice.

  2. I’ll follow up personally
    You’ll receive a confirmation of availability, along with any questions I might have about your group or plans. Please allow 2-3 business days for a response.

  3. Secure your date
    A non-refundable deposit (applied to your total) is required to officially reserve your session.

If you’re planning a birthday, team event, celebration, or a just-for-fun gathering, I recommend reaching out at least 3–4 weeks in advance, as dates tend to fill quickly.
